Osimhen To Miss Lille’s Last Game Of The Year

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will miss Lille’s final game of the season at AS Monaco on Saturday after the club decided not to risk him following a health scare during Tuesday’s French League Cup 3-0 victory over the same opposition.

The 20-year-old marksman was rushed to the hospital after complaining of dizziness and heart pain shortly after putting the Great Danes ahead at the Stade Louis II after 19 minutes.

Although he has since been given the all-clear with manager Christophe Galtier quoted in the French media as saying that “everything is back to normal”, Osimhen will be afforded more time to recuperate and will thus sit out Lille’s return to the Stade Louis II for a second encounter in five days.

Osimhen’s absence could be keenly felt by Lille after the striker took to life in France by storm scoring 9 times in the league and 12 times in all competitions.

With the league going on recess after Saturday’s round of matches, the former Wolfsburg striker has effectively been handed an early mid-season break and would hope to return in perfect condition to keep banging in the goals when the French Ligue 1 resumes on 11 January.

Third-placed Lille will be looking to end the year on a high and consolidate their hold on the final champions league spot with victory over fifth-placed Monaco.

They travel to Dijon when the league resumes in January.
