Osimhen Suffers First Napoli Loss As Juventus Get 3-0 Win For Unplayed Game

Victor Osimhen suffered his first defeat as a Napoli player in unusual fashion as they were handed a 3-0 defeat and docked a point for failing to play their Serie A match away to Juventus earlier this month.

Following two positive Covid-19 tests before the game on October 4, Napoli were ordered not to travel by their local health authority.

Serie A turned down Napoli’s request to call the game off, meaning that Juventus and match officials were both present at the stadium and the floodlights were turned on. Play was officially abandoned 45 minutes after kickoff time.

Serie A’s disciplinary tribunal, has now awarded the three points to champions Juve as well as sanctioning Napoli with a point after rejecting Napoli’s claim of force majeure by pointing out there was a clear health protocol for the league.

The announcement is likely to infuriate Napoli who said they were only following the orders of local health authorities.

The club has already threatened to appeal and take legal action if a new date for the match is not arranged.

Osimhen is yet to score for Napoli following his club record move in the summer.

Napoli have won their opening two matches and have five points from three games in the Serie A table while Juventus have seven.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side are next in action on Saturday, 17 October when they welcome free scoring Atalanta to the San Paolo.
