Osimhen Hits Double Figures In Ligue 1

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen hit double figures for Lille in Ligue 1 with his tenth league goal of the season but could not prevent his side from a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Monaco at the Stade Louis II on Saturday.

The forward who also found the net against the same opposition five days ago in the French League Cup put Lille ahead in the 13th minute but the hosts rallied to victory with five straight goals with Wissam Ben Yedder claiming a brace.

The loss means Lille drop to third on the log and fall out of the last Champions League spot as they end the year with a defeat.

Osimhen had been a doubt for the encounter with reports suggesting that the forward who had been rushed to hospital with complaints of dizziness and heart pain following his goal against Monaco in the League Cup would be rested for Lille’s last game of the year.

But he was handed a start by Christophe Galtier and rewarded the coach’s faith with his tenth league goal and 13th goal in 24 appearances in all competitions.

Osimhen’s barnstorming start to life in France has seen him become just the third player in the last half century to score ten league goals for Lille in his first eighteen games after Senegalese forward Moussa Sow and Ivory Coast winger Gervinho.

The forward will now embark on a much-needed break as Ligue 1 vacates for the midseason.

The league resumes in January with Lille playing away to Dijon on the 11th.
