Onuachu, Dessers On Target As Genk Reclaim Jupiler League Top Spot

Super Eagles duo Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers both found the net as Genk beat Royal Antwerp to reclaim top spot in the Belgian Jupiler League on Sunday.

Emmanuel Dennis’ Club Brugge had briefly taken top spot after they beat St Truiden courtesy of David Okereke’s winner on Saturday.

But they displaced a day later as Onuachu grabbed a brace while Theo Bongonda and Dessers also got on the act to guide Genk to a 4-2 win against Antwerp.

Onuachu scored twice in the first half to give the home side the lead following Koji Miyoshi’s early opener for the visitors.

With the brace, the lanky Super Eagles striker took his tally for the season to fourteen goals in 15 league appearances.

Bongonda added a third for the hosts after the interval but Dieumerci Mbokani then reduced the deficit for Antwerp before Dessers who had replaced compatriot Onuachu as has become routine in Genk games, made sure of the spoils for the hosts with an 87th minute strike five minutes after coming on.

Dessers goal was his fourth in eleven league appearances.

Victory takes Genk to 31 points, one more than Club Brugge after fifteen games.
