Okpe Confident Of Team’s Chances As Yellow Greens Depart For ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier (AUDIO)

Captain of Nigeria’s men cricket national team Sylvester Okpe says the Yellow Greens are completely focused on securing the sole ticket on offer as they jetted out for the ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier taking place from 15 – 21 November in Kigali, Rwanda.

Speaking to Nigeria Cricket Federation media ahead of the team’s departure on Friday, Okpe expressed confidence that the team’s extensive preparations over the last few months will see them achieve their ambitions in Kigali.

’We have been preparing so hard since December last year till date,” Okpe said. “We’ve been through different tournaments and series against Sierra Leone, Kenya and Uganda in the last few months.

“As a team, we have put in so much work and effort to see that this tournament becomes successful, the target is to qualify for the next phase of the ICC T20 world cup by getting the desired victory in Rwanda.”

As part of their preparations for the qualifier, the Yellow Greens took on Sierra Leone in an International T20i bilateral series in October, winning five of six games. Head coach Asanka Gurusinha named a 14-man team for the Kigali tournament.

Nigeria will play six doubleheader matches against Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya over a three-day period with victory in all games ensuring automatic qualification.

The Yellow Greens start their campaign against Tanzania and Uganda on 17 November.
