Ogunbote Reveals Status Of Sunshine Stars Contract Talks (AUDIO)

Former Enugu Rangers coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has confirmed to busybuddiesng.com that he is in discussions about a possible return to Sunshine Stars but insists no agreements have been been struck yet despite media reports to the contrary.

Ogunbote will leave Lobi Stars after the Makurdi club declined to renew his contract following the premature end of the 2019-20 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

Reports say he will be replaced by Kabiru Dogo, current head coach of Sunshine Stars, currently in the grip of a mass exodus of players and officials amid reports of cashflow problems and unpaid salaries.

Ogunbote has been tipped to replace the Dogo in Akure but the former Enyimba gaffer said while “top discussions” are indeed on, reports that he has signed a three-year contract are premature.

“The truth of the matter is that for now, we are in top discussions, and until we conclude the discussions one cannot say a deal has been concluded,” Ogunbote said.

It appears only a matter of time before Ogunbote seals a return to Sunshine Stars and fans will hope that his second spell mirrors the success of his first.

The coach famously called “The Oracle” for his tactical acumen confounded expectations to lead the club to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League in 2012 in his first spell in Akure.

He won his first managerial laurel in incredible fashion in 2018, masterminding a comeback for the ages as his Rangers overturned a 3-0 deficit with 15 minutes left to defeat Kano Pillars in the final of the AITEO Cup.
