During the mid-season transfer window in Europe, a number of top European clubs including Barcelona were reportedly interested in the former Watford striker.

Super Eagles Forward, Odion Jude Ighalo has revealed why his move to Barcelona did not materialize in February.

Shortly after, with his contract almost coming to an end at Changchun Yatai, Ighalo put down his signature for another Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua.

It was unknown why the deal with Barcelona failed to pull through but the 29-year-old has come out to put speculations to death about the failed deal.

”The deal was for me to play on loan for a season, but I was not ready to take chances as my playing minutes could not be guaranteed and at end of the season, I will be a free agent.

I prefer to secure my future by signing a longer deal in China”. He said.

At Shanghai Shenhua, Ighalo got to reunite with Sanchez Florez, his former manager at Watford and grabbed his maiden goal of 2019 for the club in their 2-1 loss to Hebei China Fortune.

He is presently in camp with the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their final AFCON qualifier game against Seychelles and friendly against Egypt.
