NWFL Super 6: Rivers Angels Win Record-Extending 7th League Title

Rivers Angels claimed a record-extending seventh league crown with victory over Sunshine Queens at the NWFL Super 6 tournament at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-ode on Sunday.

Oghenebrume Ikhekua with her fifth of the competition and Vivian Ikechuchwu gave Edwin Okon’s side a two-goal lead heading into half time.

The Jewels of Rivers completed the rout after the break with Alice Ogebe and diminutive forward Maryann Ezeanagu finding the net to give Angels a comprehensive 4-0 win.

The triumph means Rivers Angels will be Nigeria’s flag bearers for the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League.

Rivers Angels’ Ikhekua also finished as top scorer.

In other games on the final day of the NWFL Super 6, FC Robo Queens and Delta Queens played out 1-1 stalemate while Bayelsa Queens recorded their first victory at the tournament with a 3-0 win over Edo Queens.

The well-attended finale had Sports Minister, Sunday Dare; NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, NFF First Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi; Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Edo State Deputy Governor, Phillip Shuaibu; NFF Board Members, Ahmed Fresh, Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi and Nigeria Referee Association hoss, Alhaji Tade Azeez in attendance.
