NTF Partners With Korean Embassy For Taekwondo Championship

The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has reached a partnership agreement with the South Korean embassy via the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria for to host the annual Korean Ambassador Cup Taekwondo Championships.

The 2018 edition of the competition has now been scheduled to hold from October 4 through to October 6 in FCT Abuja.

In addition, the weight categories in the NTF-D ranked championships has been expanded from 8 to 23.

The 2017 edition played host to just 8 Kyeorugi [fighting] weight categories but this year’s edition will feature 23 events [including 18 Kyeorugi in seniors and juniors as well as 5 poomsae events].

The juniors categories have been added to competition for the first time since the championships started in 80s.

The latest Daedo Gen 2 technology and World Taekwondo rules will be used for the first time at the upcoming National Youth Games.

The technology and rules will also be employed at the aforementioned Taekwondo competition thus making it the first time at a National Senior event.

While speaking about the competition, NTF Secretary General, Kabir Yusuf said: “We have been discussing and planning for this event all year, so we are ready to organize an event that will be very well-planned, competitive and technology-driven. We thank the South Korean Embassy for their continued investment in the development of Taekwondo in Nigeria.”

Online registration is expected to run from August 20 through to September 20.

Over 400 athletes from Nigeria and other West African countries will feature at the Taekwondo Championship.
