NPFL Super Six: Enyimba Secure Continental Slot with a Game to Spare

Enyimba Int’l FC of Aba will be representing Nigeria for the eleventh time at the continental level after securing a win over FC IfeanyiUbah on matchday four of the Nigeria Professional Football League Championship Playoffs.

The People’s Elephant had to wait until the last day of the NPFL regular season to qualify for the Super Six playoffs but currently top the chart in the playoffs with nine points with a game to spare.

Having qualified for the Playoffs, the Aba-based side got their campaign rolling with a set of victories over Nigeria’s continental returnees – Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars in their first and third games although, had tasted defeat at the hands of Kano Pillars on matchday 2 before their comprehensive 3-1 victory over Lobi Stars.

On day four at the Soccer Temple, “whipping boys” of the championships playoffs, FC IfeanyiUbah were victims of defeat for the fourth time as they gifted Enyimba another comprehensive 3 -1 victory to top the Super Six tourney.

Going into the last day of the tourney, Kano Pillars are second with eight points while Akwa United, Enugu Rangers, and Lobi Stars are third, fourth and fifth respectively. Sadly, FC Ifeanyi Ubah have not won any game in the playoffs and sit rock bottom of the table and will face Enugu Rangers (in an Oriental derby away from the East) for bragging rights in their last game of the tourney.

A CAF Champions League spot is already certain for the Usman Abd’Allah’s wards regardless they lose against Akwa United by more than a goal’s margin and Kano Pillars get to beat Lobi Stars later today.
