NPFL: Struggling Yobe Desert Stars Sack Coach Ngozi Elechi

Relegation-threatened Yobe Desert Stars have sacked their head coach Ngozi Elechi after just four months in charge of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side.

The Damaturu-based club is rooted to the bottom of Group B of the abridged NPFL season with just 10 points from 12 matches.

The straw that broke the Camel’s back was a 1-0 defeat for Elechi’s Desert Stars against his former side Go Round FC in a Match Day 12 encounter at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium, Omoku on Sunday.

Under Elechi’s guidance, Yobe Desert Stars managed just 3 wins, a draw and 8 losses (the most by any club in the league this season) in 12 matches, leaving the club bottom of Group B, and 5 points from safety.

The former Plateau United defender, who guided Go Round FC to the NPFL in 2018, joined Yobe Desert Stars in November on a two-year contract. Ironically, his last match in charge of Yobe was against Go Round.
