NPFL: Pillars Worsen FC Ifeanyiubah’s Relegation Woes, Rivers Utd Beat Nasarawa

Auwali Ali Malam scored the only goal of the game as Kano Pillars extinguished FC Ifeanyiubah’s mini revival to compound their relegations woes.

Playing at home, FC Ifeanyiubah were looking to consolidate on their two-game unbeaten run as they looked to climb out of relegation troubles.

Having picked a point at Heartland FC last time out on the back of collecting all three points against Wikki Tourists the Nnewi side came into the fixture in high spirits but surprisingly failed to show any fight after going behind to Malam’s 23rd minute winner.

The loss means they remain in 18th place with 8 points, two off safety. Victory makes it two wins on the bounce for Pillars who move up to 4th with 17 points.

In the final fixture for matchday 9, Rivers United rebounded from defeat to Katsina United last time out with a routine 2-0 victory against Nasarawa United in Port Harcourt.

Malachi Ohawume and Esor Nelson scored either side if halftime to condemn Nasarawa United to a third loss on the bounce.

After going unbeaten in their opening six games, the wheels appears to have fallen off the Nasarawa United wagon and after appearing to be in the title mix early on, they’ve now fallen to 8th, seven points off leaders Enyimba.

Rivers United, meanwhile, are back up to joint-second, two off the top.
