NPFL: Pillars Back To Winning Ways, Enyimba Drop Points Again

Kano Pillars moved to within two points of the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League with a convincing 3-0 victory over Lobi Stars in Kaduna on matchday 31.

The Sai Masu Gida trailed leaders Abia Warriors by four points after losing at MFM last time out but turned on the style to dispatch visiting Lobi Stars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and reignite their title chase with seven games let of the season.

Umar Hassan’s first-half opener was extended by David Ebuka and old warhorse Rabiu Ali as Pillars climbed to 55 points, two points off Akwa United who battled to a 0-0 stalemate with Plateau United in Jos.

Elsewhere, Fatai Osho’s future at Enyimba looks increasingly fragile after the Peoples Elephant dropped points for the third straight game at home in a 1-1 stalemate with Rivers United.

Enyimba needed a late equaliser from Austin Oladapo to rescue a point against lowly Warri Wolves last time out and on Sunday, it fell to Abubakar Adamu to spare the 8-time champions’ blushes after Malachi Ohawume had given the visitors the lead.

Izuchukwu Chimezie’s equaliser helped impressive MFM grab a share of the spoils at bottom club Adamawa United and in Ilorin, late strikes from Kabiru Balogun and Farayola Olawale helped Kwara United overcome the stiff resistance of Enugu Rangers.

Warri Wolves scored two early goals to condemn Abia Warriors to a fifth straight defeat with the Umuahia-based side appearing to have regressed to their dire form at the start of the season and it was a similar blitz at the Umaru Dikko Stadium where Katsina United stunned FC Ifeanyiubah with three first half goals to grab all three points.

And Ibrahim Sule’s 73rd-minute winner ensured Wikki Tourist grabbed all three points at home against Dakkada FC who had looked likely to leave with a share of the spoils.
