NPFL Matchday 3 Review: Early Pacesetters Plateau, Tornadoes Lose Winning Start As Rangers Edge Heartland In Oriental Derby Clash

Early Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) pacesetters Niger Tornadoes and Plateau United have lost their winning start to the new season after they both ended up on the losing side on Matchday 3.

Tornadoes were beaten 1-0 by their hosts Wikki Tourists courtesy a Mustapha Ibrahim strike on the hour mark while champions Plateau United also lost by the same scoreline at Abia Warriors through a Samson Obi goal as early as the 2nd minute.

The immediate past champions Enugu Rangers picked up their first points of the season after they defeated their hosts Heartland 1-0 in their Oriental Derby clash.

Bright Silas gave Gbenga Ogunbote’s team a 10th minute lead but the home side had a fantastic opportunity to level matters but Lucky Emarijake failed to convert from the spot.

Rangers thereafter held on to their advantage in the face of consistent pressure from the home side.

With Niger Tornadoes and Plateau United dropping points, Lobi Stars move to the top after Samad Kadiri scored the only goal of the game for a 1-0 win over Go Round FC.

The Makurdi-based side are now the only unbeaten side in the league after Matchday 3.
