NPFL Matchday 18 Review (Monday): Rivers United, Plateau United Earn Valuable Point

Rivers United and Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Plateau United posted impressive performances to earn a point in their respective Matchday 18 clashes on Monday evening.

Rivers United star Malachy Ohawume was the hero for his side after his 73rd minute goal cancelled out Sikiru Olatunbosun’s 17th minute opener for their hosts MFM FC of Lagos as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

The point took Rivers United (26 points) into the top four while MFM (23 points) also move from 13th to 9th spot on the league table.

In the other game played, Heartland played out a 1-1 draw with Plateau United at home.

Tosin Omoyele’s late strike was good enough to rescue a point for the champions who had earlier gone down to an Abiodun Thompson goal in the 21st minute.

The point gained didn’t lift Heartland (18 points) off the bottom but Plateau United (22 points) move three places from 14th to 11th as a result of the point gained.
