NPFL: Heartland Captain Ezenwa Calls For Focus Ahead Of Katsina Utd Tie (AUDIO)

Heartland captain Ikechukwu Ezenwa says the Owerri-based side must be focused ahead of their Nigeria Professional Football league (NPFL) Match Day 21 encounter against his former club Katsina United on Sunday.

Still basking in a 1-0 away win against Adamawa United as the NPFL resumed a week ago, the Naze Millionaires entertain the Changi Boys, who themselves thrashed Wikki Tourists 5-1 same day, at the Dan Anyiam stadium.

After a shock 2-0 win against Enyimba in Aba last season, Heartland were held to a goalless stalemate by Katsina United, who they face on Sunday, coming off a decent 1-0 away win against Adamawa United.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper is calling on his teammates to guide themselves against a repeat of last season’s scenario.

The former Enyimba and Sunshine Stars shot stopper added that the target of the 5-time NPFL champions is to claim maximum points against Katsina United and continue climbing on the log.

“The most important thing is that we just have to be focused because Katsina (United) are a good side, and it’s not going to be an easy game,” the 32-year-old ex-Sunshine Stars and FC IfeanyiUbah goalkeeper said.

“I remember last season when we won an away game against Enyimba in Aba, playing them (Katsina United) at home in Okigwe, we had a goalless draw.

“So, I think we’ve gotten another away win against Adamawa United. So, we just have to be focused 100% to make sure we beat Katsina United come Sunday. That is our target. So, that when you check the table, I think we will be in the first 6 or first 7 position. So, that’s the most important thing for us the players – to make this State (Imo) proud.”

Interestingly, on Sunday, Heartland are likely to face their former midfielder Samuel Nnoshiri, who they claim joined Katsina United illegally during the midseason break last month.

The Naze Millionaires are currently placed 8th on the NPFL table, with 29 points from 20 matches, and will replace Enyimba in 7th place, with a win against Katsina United on Sunday.
