NPFL: Heartland, Abia Warriors Bag Narrow Home Wins

Heartland FC secured a first win in three games with a narrow 2-1 defeat of basement side Adamawa United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Monday.

The fixture which was one of two concluding matches of matchday 19 burst into life ten minutes before the break after talisman Samuel Nnoshiri gave the home side the lead from the spot to send them into the break 1-0 up.

Emmanuel Oguagu levelled matters in the 51st-minute but Emeka Atuloma curled home a brilliant free-kick 15 minutes later to settle the encounter and secure all three points for Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men.

The win lifts the Naze Millionaires to 11th in the table while Adamawa United remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

In Monday’s other game, Abia Warriors returned to winning ways after the blip last time out at Nasarawa United to edge Plateau United 2-1 in Okigwe with all three goals coming in the first sixteen minutes.

Paul Samson put Imama Amapakabo’s side ahead after just six minutes but Mustapha Ibrahim restored parity from the spot five minutes later before Godwin Obaje scored what proved to be the winner in the 16th-minute.

Abia Warriors climb to 10th with the win, two places above Abdu Maikaba’s Plateau United.
