NPFL: Head Coach Nikyu Sets Top 3 Target For Nasarawa United (AUDIO)

Nasarawa United coach Bala Nikyu says his target is to guide the Solid Miners to a Top 3 finish at the end of the ongoing 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, which will ultimately guarantee continental football next term.

The Lafia-based side have started the second round of the season almost the way they did in the first, winning three consecutive matches, including a 3-1 thrashing of Heartland on Sunday.

Despite suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to Kano Pillars on Wednesday, Nasarawa United occupy the 5th spot on the NPFL standings, with 39 points from 23 matches, just five points behind leaders Pillars (44).

“Football is timely as you know,” the former Wikki Tourists gaffer said. “Anytime it favours you, you should think of how to continue because there are times if it does not favour you, you’ll begin to feel as if everything about it is wrong.

“We are targeting to be among the first two or first three at the end of the season. So, for now, we are not talking of ‘how many points?’ We are talking of the position for now.

“So, it’s not the point that is the issue. You can get the point here but you’re still targeting somewhere. Unless the league is off, you’ll never can tell what will happen in the next match.”

Nikyu’s side will next face relegation-threatened Adamawa United at home in a Match Day 24 NPFL tie on Sunday, as they continue their quest for a Top 3 finish.
