NPFL: Goal King, Mfon Udoh Leads The Pack In Rescheduled League Fixtures

Mfon Udoh’s seventh league goal of the season wasn’t enough for Akwa United to bag a second win away from home as Musa Usman scored an 89th-minute equaliser from the spot to deny the Promise Keepers victory at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Sunday in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture.

Gombe United were looking to bounce back from the shock defeat at home last time out against Go Round FC and were ahead in the 26th minute through Musa Usman. Akwa who were on a five-game unbeaten spell prior to this encounter, however, equalised through substitute Emmanuel Charles who nodded home Mfon Udoh’s delivery from a corner kick in the 78th minute.

Charles then turned provider as he set up Udoh to put Akwa ahead in the 84th minute but Dennis Nya handled in the box and Musa duly dispatched the ensuing penalty to complete his brace and earn a point for the home side.

In other rescheduled league games decided on Sunday, Kada City were 2-1 winners over Yobe Desert Stars who remain marooned at the bottom of Group B. Kabiru Sanusi put Kada ahead in the 18th minute at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna following good work from Papa Idris. Philip Auta drew the visitors level three minutes after the break but victory was secured for Kada after Kabiru Sarki popped up with the winner in the 88th minute.

Remo Stars bagged a first win in Sagamu after goals from Lanre Runsewe and an 89th-minute penalty from Victor Mbaoma gave them a 2-1 win over ten-man Wikki Tourists for whom Ahmed Jimoh was sent off in the first half. Isa Gata scored Wikki’s lone goal in the 36th minute.

Solomon Ogbeide’s Lobi Stars came from behind to secure a point against Katsina United and in the process dropped points at home for the first time this season. Yaya Kone scored from the spot for the hosts to pull them level after Martins Usule had given Abdullahi Biffo’s side an early first-half lead.

In the day’s final fixture, Bendel Insurance and Enyimba played out to a goalless draw at the UNIBEN Sports Complex in Benin. Ibrahim Mustapha’s 84th-minute effort for Enyimba was ruled out for offside.
