NPFL: Finidi George Hopeful Of ‘Good Result’ In Abia Derby (AUDIO)

Enyimba coach Finidi George says he is looking forward to securing a ‘good result’ against Abia Warriors in their opening game of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday in Aba.

The former Super Eagles winger has started life well as Enyimba gaffer, with three wins in as many games in the CAF Confederation Cup, leaving the two-time African champions on the brink of advancing to the group stage of the competition.

But in what will be his first-ever game as coach of the People’s Elephant in the NPFL, the ex-Ajax and Real Betis player wants to replicate the continental form on the domestic scene.

In an exclusive interview with www.busybuddiesng.com, the 50-year-old tactician added that senior members of his squad understand the enormity of playing in the Abia Derby.

“Tomorrow we have our first match,” he noted. “I think it’s going to be one of the games that we will play this season.

“It’s a derby and the players know what it takes. Those that are here two years ago or three years ago, they know what it takes to play a derby, especially when it is the first game (of the season). So, they will give all their best and see how we can get a good result.

“The game will be played on the field, so, we might do all the talking, but at the end of the day, the actors will do their job, and hopefully, we would get a good result.”
