NPFL: Deutsch Quits Abia Warriors Over ‘Unpaid Bonuses’ Hours After Enyimba Mauling

Emmanuel Deutsch has resigned as coach of Abia Warriors over ‘unpaid bonuses’ with immediate effect.

His resignation came a few hours after Abia Warriors were hammered 4-1 by Enyimba in Okigwe in a re-arranged Match Day 20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture, which was initially disrupted by crowd trouble on Sunday in Umuahia.

“I have resigned, I’m not happy with the club,” the former Plateau United coach told www.busybuddiesng.com in an exclusive telephone conversation. “Since the beginning of the season, my match bonuses have been unpaid. You cannot get the best from the players when you are not paying their match bonuses.

“Since the beginning of this season, no match bonuses. Things have been difficult and the pressure has been on me. Whatever happens, they put pressure on me like I don’t know what to do.”

The Cameroonian tactician also informed that his resignation has nothing to do with the heavy defeat to Enyimba on Monday, stating that he already made up his mind to leave Abia Warriors prior to the encounter.

“I did not resign because I lost to Enyimba, I wanted to leave the team since because of too much pressure on me,” he said.

“Last time at the meeting, I told them that after the Enyimba match, win or draw, I will go. I have maintained my word.”

Deutsch leaves Abia Warriors with the side placed 14th on the NPFL log with 24 points from 20 matches.
