NPFL: Akwa Utd, Kano Pillars Pick Away Wins

Nyima Nwagua and Ebuka David were on target as Kano Pillars won away at Wikki Tourist on matchday 17 to record a second straight victory following the departure of Frenchman Emmanuel Lionel Soccoia.

Sai Masu Gida went two up inside 27 minutes after David added to Nwagua’s opener.

Stephen Chukwudi pulled one back for the hosts in the 66th minute but the visitors held on for the win to go joint top of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Akwa United also picked up three points away from home with a 2-1 win over MFM in Lagos.

Mfon Udoh and Nwani Ikechukwu scored either side of Paul Obata’s to help Kennedy Boboye’s side to all three points.

Akwa United move up to third in the table with the win while MFM drop to 17th and are firmly in relegation trouble.

Elsewhere, Jude Steven scored a superb hat-trick as Kwara United mauled bottom side Adamawa United 5-0 in Ilorin.

Kwara United lead the log with 30 points, level with Kano Pillars but with a superior goals difference.

There were also five goals in Makurdi as home side Lobi Stars dispatched Rivers United 4-1.

Abia Warriors have now gone eight games without defeat as they eased past Katsina United 3-1 in Okigwe and Heartland could only draw 1-1 in Owerri with Warri Wolves.
