Former Akwa United Vice-Captain, Ubong Friday believes Akwa United will emerge champions of the2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) abridged season.
Friday sealed a move to Armenia League side, Lori FC on Tuesday but when asked about the chances of the 2017 Aiteo Cup Champions winning their maiden NPFL title under new coach Rafael Everton, the 21-year-old opined it was possible.
“They can win the league because they have the quality there and every quality that a coach will ever want in a team. I am definitely sure they will win the League this time.” He said.
Formerly known as Ibom Stars, the Uyo based side has never had a grasp on an NPFL trophy since her promotion into Nigeria’s topflight league in 2006. Their closest was second place in the 2017/2018 season under former coach, Abdul Maikaba.
Currently, Akwa United are third placed in Group B of the NPFL log, two points behind leaders Ifeanyi Ubah FC having played ten matches.
