Nigerian Midfielder Yusuf Omitted From Zamalek Squad For Season Opener

Nigerian midfielder Marouf Yusuf has been left out of Zamalek’s squad ahead of their opening match for the 2018/19 Egyptian Premier League season.

Yusuf, whose contract expired this summer, has been at loggerheads with the Egyptian giants over a new deal and was conspicuously absent from the 23-man list of players named for the first league game of the season against Petrojet on Tuesday.

He had earlier been omitted from the 29-man squad for the new season.

The 23-year-old was offered a five-year deal and has refused to sign as he reportedly wants a two-year contract according to Kingfut.com.

With his contractual situation still a long way from being resolved, Yusuf is set to join Al Wehda FC of Saudi Arabia on a free transfer.

He joined the White Knights from fellow Egyptian side Ittihad El-Shorta in 2014 and went on to score two goals and provide eight assists in 83 appearances.

He was part of the Zamalek team that won the league and cup double in 2015 before adding another Egyptian Cup title last season.

Zamalek finished fourth last season while their hosts Petrojet were in 12th spot at the end of last season.
