Why Nigerian Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho Lost His First Team Position At Deportivo

Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has been sent back to Deportivo La Coruna’s team B.

Uzoho lost his position in the first 11 because of his inability to speak fluent Spanish.

The 18-year-old Uzoho recently called up by Super Eagles handlers, kept a goal in back to back La-Liga game under sacked coach Pepe Mel.

Since the appointment of Cristobal Parralo in the caretaker capacity he has failed to make the matchday squad.

The new manager has settled for the experienced duo of Przemyslaw Tyton and Costel Pantilimon, while the Nigerian has been demoted back to the B team who are campaigning in the third division in Spain.

Spanish journalist, Jonas told Own goal, “The team is in a difficult situation right now, and the coach feels it’s not the right time to throw in an 18-year-old at the deep end. “At 18 he has done well to progress to the first team after just six months at the club, nice footwork and good reflexes but language is a big barrier for him, because his Spanish isn’t up there yet, and as you know communication is the key between goalkeeper and defenders.”
