Nigeria Blowout Uganda In FIBA African Qualifier To Secure Second Round Spot

Nigeria’s male basketball team, D’Tigers have become the first side to book a place in the 12-team second round of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers after they thrashed Uganda 109-66 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos on Friday.

It was the team’s first Group B game in the second leg, first round of the FIBA African qualifiers.

D’Tigers captain Ike Diogu inspired the team to victory in front of home support as he led the scoring with 24 points, while Jordin Mayes topscored for the Ugandans with 18 points.

The result that D’Tigers extend their record in the African qualifiers to 4-0 with two Group B games (vs. Rwanda and Mali) remaining in the second leg on Saturday and Sunday.

16 African countries are battling it out across four cities with the aim of securing at least one spot from the five places on offer for Africa at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.
