Nadal Pulls Out Of Mexican Open With Injury

Former world number one Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Mexican Open with injury.

Nadal, 31, retired with a hip injury in the 5th set of his Australian Open quarter-final match against Marin Cilic of Croatia in Melbourne last month.

The world number two was due to face fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the Mexican Open first round on Wednesday in Acapulco.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion while talking about the decision to pull out on Tuesday said: “My goal and hope was to play in this tournament.”

“Unfortunately, in my last training session yesterday, I felt a sharp pain in my leg again.” he added.
