Murray Beats Wawrinka At Eastbourne In First Win For A Year

Former world number one Andy Murray recorded his first win in a year following his straight sets victory over Stanislas Wawrinka in the first round of the Nature Valley International at Eastbourne.

Murray, 31, defeated the three-time Grand Slam champion 6-1 6-3 to book his place in the next round.

The Scot will now face British number one Kyle Edmund.

The duel with Wawrinka was his second competitive match since last year’s Wimbledon Open following hip surgery.

On his first victory since last year, Andy Murray said: “Obviously I am very happy to get the win.”

“I thought the first set I played well, but the second set was patchy and I was a bit nervous.

“When you haven’t played for the best part of a year and you face someone like Stan it is tough.” He concluded.
