Mfon Udoh ‘Not Thinking’ About NPFL Golden Boot (AUDIO)

Akwa United star forward Mfon Udoh says he is ‘enjoying my game’ and not focused on emerging top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season.

The former Enyimba captain leads the race for the NPFL Golden Boot with 7 goals from 10 matches and has scored in the last 4 league games for the ‘Promise Keepers’.

The prolific winger was on target as Akwa United were held to a 2-2 draw by hosts, Gombe United on Sunday in a re-arranged NPFL fixture at the Pantami stadium to take his tally to seven this season, and remain on course for the Golden Boot.

“Honestly, I’m not thinking about the goal scorers chart, I’m just enjoying my game,” the 26-year-old forward said after his side’s draw against Gombe United. “Fortunately, the goals keep coming.

“Today (Sunday), we are glad to have a draw against Gombe United. It’s a game we would have won but we still thank God we were able to run away with one point.

“And I’m so glad for my goalscoring form. At least, I’ve scored in my last four games both home and away. I give God all the credit, and I also applaud my colleagues and my technical crew for a good job.”

While at Enyimba in 2014, Udoh set a record of 23 goals in a single season in the NPFL. If he emerges top scorer this season, he will become the first player to claim the Golden Boot twice.
