MFM Match Report (Matchday 12)

MFM cruised to a comfortable home victory over newly promoted side, Heartland FC courtesy of an early goal by Stanley Okorom and two second half goals from Chuka Uwaga and Tchato Giscard.

MFM raced into an early lead in the 7th minute after the referee pointed to the spot for a hand ball by Ismail Jimoh. Stanley Okorom slotted the penalty past the scrambling hands of the Heartland keeper.

Lucky Emariojake almost made it an immediate response for the away side but his effort went against the side netting.

However, it was MFM who had the next set of chances. Jesse Akila was guilty of profligacy in the 29th and 33rd minute. First the ball fell for him in the box and with just the keeper to beat, his lobbed effort clipped the cross bar. And then he could only play the ball straight at the keeper after the ball had deflected onto his path for a one-on-one.

Heartland had little going for them in terms of offensive chances as Chimakpa Onwuebuchi’s freekick in a promising position went disappointingly over.

Akanni Elijah had the opportunity of extending the lead for MFM with what was the last kick of the half but his effort was tame from close range.
Heartland came close early in the second half but Egbujor could not direct his header on target from a free-kick close to the corner flag.
MFM continued to search for the second goal in order to gain some comfort and it finally came through Chuka Uwaga in the 63rd minute as he guided home a precise cross from Zikiye Jonathan.

Heartland would not let their guards down and they continued fighting and Nnamdi Egbujor came really close to pulling one back in the 69th minute for the Naze Millionaires but his sublime volley agonisingly smacked the foot of the post.

From then on, it was all MFM in the final quarter as Sikiru Olatubosun and Chijioke Akuneto came close to making it three. Even then, Zikiye Jonathan had his goal ruled out for offside after he tucked away Akinyemi Nojeem’s shot which was palmed away.

Wave after wave of attacks it was on the Heartland team and they finally conceded the third goal in the final minute of stoppage time after Tchato Giscard who had been denied a minute ago tapped in Muyiwa Balogun’s pass.

The Soccer Scientists have now lost their second away game of the season while the Olukoya Boys move their way upward with 16 points garnered so far.
