MFM FC Defender Joshua Akpudje Seals Move To Latvian Side

MFM FC defender Joshua Akpudje has completed a move to Latvian club BFC Daugavpils for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old central defender signed a multi-year deal with the Latvian Higher League side on Tuesday.

The national U23 team player joins compatriots David Idowu and Chinonso Nnamdi at BFC Daugavpils which gained promotion to the Latvian topflight in 2018.

The promising defender debuted for MFM in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League but came into national spotlight with a with barnstorming performance at home against Jigawa Golden Stars in a Matchday 15 encounter where he atoned for an own goal with two excellent strikes to win the game for the Lagos club.

Long-touted for great things, he told busybuddiesng.com he once rejected a move to 4-time league champions Kano Pillars to remain with MFM.

That foresight has now paid off with his maiden foray into European football.

He is expected to make his debut for his new club when Liepāja visit the 3,980-capacity Celtnieks Stadium in Daugavpils in the season-opening round of fixtures in the Latvian Higher League this weekend.
