Matchday 14 Match Report: MFM Come From Behind To Defeat Katsina United Courtesy Of Akuneto’s Brace

Akuneto Chijioke came off the bench to score both goals for MFM FC to see off Katsina United 2-1 after Garba Yashau had opened the scoring with a sublime strike for the away team.

MFM FC took the game to their opponents from as early as the kick-off as Stanley Okorom tried to catch the Katsina goalie from way out but the former Flying Eagles keeper was equal to it.

Adebayo Waheed also had an opportunity of getting MFM in the lead from a free-kick but his header failed to beat Danjuma.

The game plan was clear from the start for Katsina United and it was to sit back and absorb the pressure while hitting effectively on the break. On one of those occasions where they broke swiftly, they almost opened the scoring.

However, it took a tame effort on a one-on-one by Usule Martins and a good save from Ospino Egbe to keep the scoreline barren.

Garba Yashau eventually acted out the script for Katsina United as he beat Ospino from outside the box with a sublime strike in the 35th minute.

Katsina managed to hang on till the break losing Danjuma Paul to a wrist injury in the process.

Coach of MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu noticed the bluntness in attack of his team and immediately rung his changes with the start of the second half bringing on Akinyemi Nojeem and Akuneto Chijioke. The move immediately paid off as Akuneto Chijioke scored within two minutes of his introduction. Akinyemi had been felled just outside the box and Akuneto struck the equaliser from the preceding freekick.

Katsina United almost with an immediate response as Usule Martins met a cut-back by Tasiu Lawal but Ospino made a good stop.

From that point on, it was all MFM with wave after wave of attacking pressure.

Akuneto Chijioke then scored his second of the evening in the 68th minute. Yinka David had spilled a rebounded effort from Akinyemi Nojeem onto the path of Onuwa Chukwuka who in turn picked out Akuneto to slam home from close range.

Katsina United huffed and puffed in the final minutes but could not find a way past Ospino as the home team held on to another brilliant win at home.
