Mascherano Expresses Delight At Eagles Win Over Iceland

Argentina vice-captain Javier Mascherano has expressed his delight at the win Nigeria recorded over Iceland at the Volgograd Arena in Volgograd on Friday evening.

Ahmed Musa scored twice against the first timers as he helped the team secure a first win at Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup via a 2-0 victory thus throwing qualification in Group D wide open.

Group leaders Croatia have already booked their place in the last 16 at the tournament but the trio of Nigeria, Iceland and Argentina can still qualify via the last spot up for grabs.

Former Barcelona and Liverpool star Mascherano was speaking during a press conference on Sunday.

In his words, he said: “We know about the noise around the team. We try to live with that. But we worry only about things we can control. On Tuesday, we will seek qualification to the next round.”
”The result between Nigeria and Iceland was the best that we could have hoped for. That gives you the chance to say ‘destiny is giving you another chance.’
”But this is not only about the mood, the team needs to perform better. The performance is what shows you the reality.
”That is why we gathered together, with the idea to work this out. We will try to do our thing with an eye on the other match.” He concluded.
