Manchester United Survive Late Leicester Scare To Record First Win

Manchester United are up and running for the new season after they survived a late scare from Leicester City to record the first points of the new Premier League season, a 2-1 home win over the Foxes.

The Red Devils got off to a dream start after Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey was adjudged to have handled in the box.

France World Cup winner and captain on the night, Paul Pogba stepped up to give his side a 3rd minute lead from the spot.

Manchester United handed Leicester City the initiative afterwards but the 2015/16 champions failed to really trouble David De Gea in goal in the first half with his only notable save coming off a shot from debutant James Maddison.

Jose Mourinho’s men continued to struggle after the interval but managed to keep Leicester City at bay despite the introduction of star striker Jamie Vardy.

That was how it stayed until left-back Luke Shaw doubled his side’s lead with seven minutes remaining for his first senior goal in 134 career appearances dating back to his time at Southampton.

Vardy pulled one back in added time to setup a final few minutes but the three-time European champions held on to claim the first points of the 2017/18 season.
