Manchester United Announce The Signing Of Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United have announced the £75m signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton on a five-year contract.

The deal which could further rise to £90m with the option of another 12-months was completed after the striker completed his medicals in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The Old Trafford outfit held off a last minute challenge from Chelsea to secure the 24-year-old Belgian signature, who turned down Everton’s lucrative deal last March saying: “I don’t want to stay at the same level. I want to improve and I know where I want to do that.”

Manchester United’s manager, Jose Mourinho, whom Lukaku worked with at Chelsea, told club’s official website: “Romelu is a natural fit for Manchester United. He is a big personality and a big player. It is only natural that he wants to develop his career at the biggest club.”

Lukaku shared his delight on Instagram over the move to the “best football club in the world”, pointing to the sky in a United jersey.

The striker told reporters: “I cannot wait to run out at Old Trafford in front of 75,000 fans.”

“When Manchester United and Jose Mourinho come knocking at the door, it is an opportunity of a lifetime and one that I could not turn down.
