Manchester City Sign Mahrez In Club Record Deal

Premier League champions Manchester City have broken their transfer record with the signing of Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

His transfer was confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old joins the Citizens in a reported £60m deal and will wear the number 26 jersey as confirmed by Manchester City.

His transfer fee surpasses the £57m Manchester City paid Athletic Bilbao for French defender Aymeric Laporte and he’s their first signing since they were crowned Premier League champions.

Riyad Mahrez joined the Foxes from French side Le Havre for £400,000 in 2014, and was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year during the 2015/16 season as he led Leicester City to an unlikely Premier League triumph.

He went on to score 48 goals in 179 appearances for the Foxes.

Mahrez finally gets his dream move after Leicester City failed to sanction his move to the Etihad Stadium during the January transfer window despite handing in a transfer request.

He thereafter scored 12 goals for Leicester City as they finished ninth at the end of the 2017/18 Premier League season.
