Madrid Beat United In Thrilling Contest To Retain Super Cup Title

European champions Real Madrid have retained the UEFA Super Cup after they defeated English giants Manchester United 2-1 at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia.

Real Madrid took a first half lead through the impressive Casemiro in the 24th minute before Spanish playmaker Isco added a second goal for his side seven minutes after the interval.

Summer signing Romelu Lukaku scored his first competitive goal for Manchester United to halved the deficit for the Red Devils in the 62nd minute and substitute Marcus Rashford could have snatched a late equaliser but for the heroics of goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

The UEFA Super Cup is contested between the winners of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and the UEFA Europa League (UEL) from the previous season.
