Newly-promoted minnows Cadiz stunned champions Real Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano to go joint top with Zinedine Zidane’s side in La Liga.
Anthony Lozano’s 16th minute effort was enough to hand Real a first league defeat of the season.
Real dominated possession but only managed two shots on target against a resilient Cadiz.
Luka Jovic thought he’d levelled but Karim Benzema was offside from Marcelo’s cross earlier in the move.
Benzema struck the bar with 10 minutes to go but the hosts could not maintain their 15-game unbeaten run in the competition.
Cadiz, however, continued their dream start to life in the Spanish top flight and claimed a first win against their opponents in La Liga since March 1991.
