Runner proposes to girlfriend at the finish line of the Great North Run.

There was love in the air as New Zealander, Jake Robertson went down on one knee to declare his undying love to Kenyan girlfriend and fellow runner, Magdalyne Masai at the finish line of the Great North Run half marathon in Newcastle. Robertson had just finished the race six seconds behind Olympic legend, Mo Farah.

23-year-old Masai who has finished fourth in the women’s race, approached her boyfriend of six years to congratulate him but was left stunned by his sudden romantic gesture as he asked her to be his wife. The crowd cheered as she gladly accepted.

Speaking with the media, Jake Robertson (27) said: “I didn’t have it planned or anything. In the last mile it just randomly came to my mind that today was the day. Six years together and I thought it was due time. We’ve been speaking about it for a long time.”

Congratulations to the lovebirds!
