Lobi Stars Face Transfer Troubles as Clubs Refuse to Release Players

Lobi Stars FC are having a hard time beefing up their squad ahead of the group stage of the CAF Champions League home game against South African Mamelodi Sundowns which is causing the club a major set back as most of the NPFL clubs are not willing to let go of their players, an official of the club revealed.

The development is believed to be related to Nigeria Professional Football League new season which was scheduled to kick off January 13th.

“You can’t believe it; majority of the players we have approached to sign have told us that they are not interested. One was bold enough to tell us that his club told him not to listen to offers from Lobi.

“Tell me, what will the clubs gain from stopping their players? We are representing Nigeria and not Benue. I beg them to release players for us because we want to make an impression for the country,” the official said.

Lobi Stars were pitted in Group A of the CAF Champions League alongside three former champions, ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and WAC Casablanca of Morocco.

The pride of Benue will begin their group stage match at home against Mamelodi Sundowns on the weekend of 11 to 13 January 2019 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
