Lingard Double Spares United’s Blushes As They Falter Again In The Title Race

Substitute Jesse Lingard scored two second half goals to spare Manchester United’s blushes in a 2-2 draw against stubborn Burnley in a Matchday 20 Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Ben Mee and a sumptuous Steven Defour freekick gave the away side a shock 2-0 lead at halftime before Manchester United manager manager José Mourinho reacted to the scoreline with two halftime substitutions involving Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Lingard had a strike saved at point black range by in-form Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope before he halved the deficit off a cross from Ashley Young.

The home side didn’t pose much of a threat until added time when Lingard reacted superbly to a sliced shot from Young to earn a point for his side.

With the hard earned point, Manchester United were able to close the gap on leaders and rivals Manchester City to just 12 points.

Holders Chelsea have moved within one point of United in the fierce battle for second place following their straightforward 2-0 win over Brighton at home courtesy second half goals from Alvaro Morata and the in-form Marcos Alonso.
