Ligue 1 Review: Mbappe Brilliance Leads PSG Past Guingamp

France World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe returned to club football with a bang on Saturday evening as he scored two goals to lead his Paris Saint Germain (PSG) side past their hosts Guingamp.

Mbappe, 18, won the young player of the year award at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia as he scored four goals to help France win a second title.

He was rested for both the Super Cup win over AS Monaco and last week’s league opener against Caen which the French champions won 3-0.

Mbappe came on for the ineffective Timothy Weah at halftime with PSG trailing to a 20th minute strike from Guingamp striker Nolan Roux.

Brazilian superstar Neymar equalised for Thomas Tuchel’s side from the penalty spot with eight second half minutes gone before Mbappe struck twice in the final eight minutes to lead his side to a 3-1 win.

The victory ensures that PSG maintain both top spot and the perfect start to the new season.

In the pick of the other games, 2016/17 champions Monaco were forced to a goalless draw at home to Lille.
