Ligue 1 Review: Marseille Thrash Hapless Lille To Boost UCL Hopes As Guingamp Stun Monaco Into UCL Qualification Fight

Olympique Marseille have boosted their hopes of securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next season following their 5-1 demolition of relegation threatened Lille Metropole in their Matchday 34 clash on Saturday.

Florian Thauvin (2), Kostas Mitroglou (2) and Lucas Ocampos were all on target for the hosts while Lille got their consolation goal courtesy Yassine Benzia.

The win moved Marseille to 69 points though they still stay in 4th spot with the former European champions now significantly one point away from second-placed AS Monaco who have been dragged back into the fight for the top three and next season’s UCL.

Monaco were beaten 3-1 by Guingamp with goals from Jimmy Briand (penalty), Etienne Didot and Marcus Thuram while visitors’ consolation goal was scored by Adama Traore.
