Ligue 1 Review: Marseille, Saint Etienne Share Four-Goal Thriller

Olympique Marseille and their hosts Saint Etienne enjoyed a four-goal thriller as the former league champions were pegged back on two occasions to put a little dent in their chase for UEFA Champions League (UCL) football next season.

In-form Florian Thauvin shot Marseille into the lead as early as the 4th minute but the home side levelled within five minutes through Kevin Monnet-Pacquet.

Rudi Garcia’s side took the lead again through a Morgan Sanson goal on 20 minutes to give Marseille a 2-1 halftime lead but they failed to hold on to that lead following Robert Beria’s equaliser for Saint Etienne with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Marseille (52 points) fail to really close the gap on leaders Paris Saint Germain (62 points) and are in immediate danger of losing their second spot to champions Monaco (50 points) who will be guests of Angers.

On the other hand, Saint Etienne stay in 12th position with 30 points.
