Ligue 1 Review: Marseille Record First Defeat At Nimes

Marseille suffered their first league defeat to Nimes in the battle of the Olympiques on Sunday night.

The 1993 Champions League winners were beaten 3-1 by their hosts in what was only their second league game of the season.

Nimes took a 34th minute lead through Gabon international winger Denis Bouanga but were pegged back by their more illustrious opponents after four second half minutes.

French star Florian Thauvin got the equaliser for Marseille as he continued from where he left off as his club’s topscorer last season.

Sada Thouib and Renaud Ripart thereafter scored to give the home team a 3-1 win over their opponents and the first major shock win of the two-weeks old season.

The win takes Nimes to second spot on the league table behind leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

In the other games on Sunday, Racing Strasbourg and visitors Saint Etienne played out a 1-1 draw, while Bordeaux suffered a second successive league defeat with the 2-1 loss at Toulouse.
