Ligue 1 Review: Marseille And Monaco Share Spoils In Top 3 Fight As Lyon Suffer Shock Defeat At Bordeaux

Olympique Marseille and champions AS Monaco played out a thrilling four-goal outcome as both teams shared the points in a week 23 league clash as the fight for the top 3 and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) gets more interesting.

Senegal international forward Keita Balde gave visitors Monaco a 4th minute lead which was cancelled out three minutes later by former Sevilla and AC Milan defender Adil Rami for a 1-1 draw at halftime.

Valerie Germain edged the hosts ahead for the first time just after the break but Fabinho equalised for the French champions four minutes later to earn a 2-2 draw for his side.

A run of six consecutive victories comes to a halt for Rudi Garcia’s side.

Marseille stay in 3rd spot but are now level on 48 points with Lyon in 2nd place while Monaco are a point and a place behind their opponents.

Olympique Lyon failed to put any sort of pressure on league leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after they were surprisingly beaten 3-1 at Bordeaux who had Otavio sent off in the second half.

First half goals from Gaetan Laborde, Arsenal target Malcolm (penalty) and Nicolas De Preville (penalty) did the damage with Lyon’s consolation coming from Marcelo just before halftime.

Bordeaux (29 points) move four places from 13th to 9th position with the stunning victory while Lyon (48 points) stay in 2nd spot and 11 points behind leaders PSG.

Former champions Lille have climbed out of the relegation zone and above Troyes into 17th after a 2-1 home win over Racing Strasbourg.

Anwar El-Ghazi and Edgar Le got the goals for the hosts either side of Idrissa Saadi’s strike for the visitors.

Lille move to 25 points while their opponents stay in 12th spot with 27 points.
