Ligue 1 Review: Lyon Strenghten Top 3 Bid With Thumping Win

Olympique Lyon have cemented their place in the French Ligue 1 top 3 in the race to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) after they thrashed their hosts Dijon 5-2 in a Matchday 35 clash on Friday night.

Memphis Depay, Hossem Aouar, Nabil Fekir, Bertrand Traore and Maxwel Cornet were all on target for Lyon with Naim Sliti getting the consolation goals for the hosts.

Third-placed Lyon (69 points) are now three points clear of UCL qualification rivals Olympique Marseille (66 points) while Dijon (42 points) stay in 12th spot.

In the other game played on Friday night, 10-man Nantes (46 points and 8th spot) played out a 1-1 draw with Stade Rennes (48 points and 5th place) as the latter maintain their UEFA Europa League (UEL) spot for next season.
