Life Ban: FIFA Hammer Falls On Former FA Presidents

The big hammer of world football’s governing body, FIFA, has fallen on three former Football Association (FA) presidents.

Former president of the Guam football association Richard Lai, his Nicaraguan counterpart Julio Rocha and former Venezuelan football association president Rafael Esquivel have all been banned from every football-related activities for life due to their involvement in corruption.

FIFA started investigating Lau when he pleaded guilty to fraud in the USA in April. Lau is also a former Asian Football Confederation (AFC) official and FIFA committee member.

Esquivel, a former vice-president of the South American confederation CONMEBOL, and former FIFA development officer Rocha also pleaded guilty to fraud in May 2015.

The corrupt practices were in relation to the awarding of marketing and broadcasting contracts.
