Las Vegas Invitational: Nigeria Rugby Sevens Thrash New Mexico U 42-0

The Nigeria Rugby Women Invitational Team to the Las Vegas Sevens Invitational team got their campaign off to a good start with a 42-0 win against New Mexico U and although they suffered narrow losses to a very good Phoenix side and the Chicago Lions Black in their subsequent games on Friday.

The latter losses not withstanding, the team christened Naija Exiles did well enough to qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The Las Vegas International is the largest rugby tournament in North America and will run from February 28 to March 2 2019. The tournament is considered the premier amateur event in the USA and features club teams, select sides and national teams from around the world.

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) earmarked the tournament to prepare the team ahead of the Africa Women’s Sevens 2019 which also doubles as 2020 Olympic qualifiers.

The Women National Team’s last outing on the international stage was in 2010.

The Nigeria team will face off against Rocky Mountain in their next game at the Invitational.
