Lanzini Ruled Out Of World Cup With Serious Knee Injury

Two-time World Cup winners Argentina have been dealt a huge blow following the news that midfielder will miss the forthcoming tournament in Russia as a result of a serious knee injury.

West Ham star Lanzini was named in Jorge Sampaoli’s 23-man in May but he will no longer be a part of the team after suffering a ruptured anterior knee ligament injury in training.

The 25-year-old scored five goals in 27 appearances in the Premier League last season, however, his hopes of transferring that form to the World Cup has now been dashed.

Argentina start their World Cup campaign against Iceland in eight days time before games against Croatia and Nigeria in Group D.

He last featured for Argentina’s in their 4-0 friendly win over Haiti last week.
Argentina have yet to announce a replacement for him.

Lanzini is the second player to miss out of the World Cup for Argentina after first-choice Sergio Romero who has been replaced by Nahuel Guzman.
